PROGRAMME 2010

6th February 2010

Tanja Bolenz - Letters as Tapestry

Creating letters is one thing; making a pleasing design quite another. Tanja, who has worked as Bookbinder, Letter Cutter and Designer, is very well placed to give us her expertise in the field of creating meaningful designs with words.

Tanja Bolenz is a graduate of Roehampton Institute, a Fellow of the SSI and a Member of Letter Exchange. Originally from Canada she has worked and studied in Germany and is now resident in the UK.

6th March 2010

Sylvie Gokulsing - Basic Hebrew Lettering

Sylvie has demonstrated Hebrew Script at CLAS Open Days and written an article for the subject in a recent "Edge". The techniques of pen control in creating Hebrew script are fascinating in themselves and might even prompt some of us to start learning the language!

Sylvie Gokulsing is a Fellow of CLAS and SSI and is a member of NLLA.

Mary Noble - Pleasing Poetry Presentation

Mary ran a popular workshop for us two years ago. She is a well-known and inspirational tutor and an Honoured Fellow of CLAS.

We are hoping at some point to run a workshop on making and decorating fans which will be run by Sue Shocket, our secretary, and Margaret Stanley, our publicity officer. This, too, will be held at Fulham.

Earlier this year we held a do-your-own-thing workshop. Those that did attend found it useful since it got them away from domestic distractions. If there is any demand for this type of workshop, especially near Christmas or before the exhibition, we could try one again. The more that attend, the less the hiring fee per person will be.

Workshops take place at Twyford Church of England High School, Twyford Crescent, Acton W3 9PP, or at Fulham Palace. The cost is £25 for members of SLLA and NLLA and £30 for non-members. Workshops run from 10am to 4pm.  Information about equipment and a map will be sent to you on booking. Places are limited to 10-14 participants, depending on the venue, so early booking is advised.
