Calligraphy, lettering and related design techniques

ADVENTURES WITH THE RULING PEN - Euan Macgregor
Whether you have
tried writing with the traditional Ruling Pen or whether it is new to
you, there will be plenty to engage with on this workshop. Euan
promises the construction of a ‘Cola’ pen among other things!
Euan Macgregor is graduate of Reigate School of Art and Design, is a former Chairman of
SLLA and is currently working with the SSI Advanced Training Scheme.

ARMENIAN
SCRIPT - Cherrell Avery.
Cherrell was first asked to explore Armenian script during
demonstrations at the British Library. You will now have the
opportunity to learn this unusual and historic script in which Syriac
bibles were written in the 4th century
AD.
Cherrell Avery is a Fellow of the SSI and CLAS. She studied
Calligraphy at Roehampton University and runs a freelance calligraphy
studio.

COPPERPLATE - Sally Mangum
Here is
a chance to try your hand at this increasingly popular
script. Sally has worked as a copperplate calligrapher for
English and American clients and is coming to show us some of her
techniques with the pointed pen.
Sally Mangum is a
graduate of Roehampton University. She has worked for some
years as a freelance calligrapher. She is currently studying
Heraldry at Reigate School of Art & Design.

“DAVID JONES” SCRIPT -
Ann Bowen
David Jones, the
poet and novelist, was a student of Eric Gill and throughout his life
interpreted his own poetry through idiosyncratic letters brushed onto
gesso backgrounds. If you wish to learn more about these
scripts or indeed have never encountered them, Ann Bowen, who has made
a special study of his work, will introduce you to this fascinating
style.
Ann Bowen is a
graduate of Reigate School of Art & Design and a prominent
member of Letter Exchange.
Workshops take
place at Fulham Palace Museum, Bishops Avenue, SW6. The cost is £22 for
members of SLLA and NLLA and £27 for non-members. Workshops run from
10am to 4pm. Tea & coffee provided. Please bring lunch.
Information
about equipment and a map will be sent to you on booking. Places are
limited to 10 participants so early booking is advised. Please send a
separate cheque for each workshop, postdated to the day of the workshop
